We all have baggage. Thing is, where do we put it?
Even infrequent visitors to this blog and those who are only mildly interested in private air travel know that it has many benefits over commercial travel. But we do ourselves a disservice if we don’t admit that there are times that commercial travel does have its advantages, too.
Don’t get me wrong. You know I’m not a commercial air travel advocate. To the contrary! But there’s at least one convenience with flying commercial that comes in handy at times. I’m talking about the large cargo holds underneath the big jets. They can accommodate, say, portable trade show booths or multiple pieces of large luggage for a month-long stay somewhere far more easily than the light- and mid-size planes.
Before you dismiss this as not a big worry, don’t forget the same concept applies to golf clubs! Check this excerpt out from a BusinessWeek article last year:
Though the notion of private flying is about ease, luggage — especially bulky sets of golf clubs — can be a problem. A plane that seats seven doesn’t necessarily have room for seven sets of clubs and seven suitcases. “People are surprised by the capacity. There is not the underbelly that you have on a big plane,” says Steve Hankin, Sentient’s CEO. “Four or five people with clubs on a Hawker 800 won’t work.”
Of course, on a more positive note, your private plane can get you a lot closer to some of the nation’s finest golf courses. And besides, you don’t always need a foursome to play golf!
