Consumer trends bode well for fractional jets.

Fractional Focus In-Depth Report

Tis the season for identifying trends and making predictions about what 2008 has in store for us and the marketplace. Some indicate that 2008 will be another banner year for fractional jet ownership.Ad agency behemoth J. Walter Thompson sees 2008 as the year of more “cooperative consumption.” That’s a fancy way of describing fractional ownership. The agency, which does work for Ford, MTV, Shell and others, believes that, building upon the popular time-share model of vacation homes, more consumers will turn to fractional ownership of art, cars and, yes, planes. While no surprise to us here at Fractional Focus (or at Barefoot, the agency I founded), it never hurts to see our own instincts and data validated by others.

Trendwatch.com writes about the rise of “transumers,” that is, though who live a “transient lifestyle.” These are folks who seek out new experiences and possessions in part for status and in part to fight boredom and gain new thrills. Obviously, fractional jet ownership is a door to new experiences, and I don’t know how one could be bored owning one.

Luxury marketing consultancy KWE Group sees several trends shaping consumers in 2008. Among these are the ever-increasing role of time with family, as well as the importance of saving time when traveling. Given the wonderful family time that fractional jet ownership enables, and of course, the extra time in your travel schedule, to boot, these trends also bode well for fractional flying.

Looks like 2008 is going to be a mighty fine year.

Cheers!
